Circuit, GFCI, Disconnect and Run
Four parts to every hot tub hookup, and the last one is where the price comes from:
240V on a two-pole breaker, sized to the nameplate on your tub, commonly 50A
A GFCI breaker or a spa panel beside the tub, required on every tub and not optional
A switch within sight of the tub and at least five feet back from the water
Conduit from the panel to the pad, along the house, under the deck, or buried across the yard
A full-size tub asks for 40 to 60 amps, which is more than some Seattle-area houses have spare. We check the panel before we quote anything else, because the answer decides whether this is a circuit and a run or a subpanel or service upgrade first. The check is free, and having it a few weeks out is the difference between a one-day install and a scramble on delivery week.
Which one you have is decided by the tub you bought. It is worth knowing the difference before you buy, because a plug-and-play spa is an afternoon and a full-size tub can be a panel upgrade.

The electrical should be finished before the delivery truck turns up, and that takes a few days of notice rather than a few hours.
Breaker, conduit, and disconnect go in while the pad is still empty, then a short second visit lands the wires inside the spa pack once the tub is set and filled. That way the trench, the conduit, and the inspection are not happening around a full hot tub.
A new 240V circuit for a tub needs an electrical permit and an inspection. We pull it, schedule the inspector, and meet them, and the fee is a line on your estimate. It is worth having on paper for later too, because an unpermitted spa circuit is the kind of thing a home inspector finds when you sell.
A swim spa is the same job at a higher amperage, sometimes on two circuits. Electric saunas take a 240V circuit and a controller of their own, and we wire those too. While the conduit is open, the outlet and the path light the pad turns out to need are cheap to add.

The model or the spec sheet gives us the amperage. A photo of your open panel and one of where the tub is going gives us the rest, usually without a visit.
A licensed electrician confirms the panel has the capacity, measures the run, and prices the circuit, the disconnect, and any trenching on one itemized sheet.
Circuit, conduit, and disconnect go in ahead of the tub wherever the dates allow. We come back to make the final connection inside the spa pack once it is set and filled.
